Miramar bus hub changes

Carol from Miramar

I wrote to Greg Campbell, Chief Executive, Greater Wgton Regional Council re the blind spot at Miramar bus hub when a bus is parked there and also the lack of parking in Miramar Ave and Hobart Street due to the bus hub being where it is and how difficult it is to get a park to attend a doctor's, or dentist appointment etc. Below is his reply to me.

"Planned constructions works around Miramar Hub

Since our discussions with you in May via GWRC Chair Chris Laidlaw, we have discussed Miramar hub with Wellington City Council in depth, particularly the sightlines for the pedestrian crossing outside New World. We are happy to advise that the kerb on the southern side (New World side) will be extended to improve visibility for pedestrians when a bus is parked at the bus stop. The median island will be reduced in size slightly to ensure the carriageway width is maintained. There is also an island to be built on the South/East corner of Miramar Ave/Stone St to accommodate a speed advisory sign. The work is planned to commence on 5th August and run for approximately 2 weeks.

Parking around central Miramar

As a result of the changes to the bus stops in central Miramar, there has been a net gain of two (not five) car parks in the immediate area. Decisions about parking fall under the WCC as the Road Controlling Authority, so any further concerns about parking would be best raised directly with Wellington City Council via their online feedback form.
