Programme 'quick look' - CompassionFest starting Fri 5- Sun 7 Oct

Explore the life of Suzanne Aubert who devoted her life to helping others in the late 1800s-1900s, right here in Island Bay, and potentially New Zealand's first saint!
Fri 5th: 7pm. Festival opening at Home of Compassion, 2 Rhine St.
Sat 6th: Free fun KidsFest 10am - 2pm, 88 The Parade. All children welcome (must have adult supervisor). Then: Children trolley donated food to the Home of Compassion for a Mother Aubert 'experience'.
"Suzanne's Island Bay", 5pm, 284 The Parade. Fascinating architecture of the times!
Then: 6pm pop-up soup kitchen at 284 The Parade - Baptist church. Plse bring a koha can of food for the actual Soup Kitchen.
Then: 7pm "Splendid Drop" beer tasting and local narrative, 311 The Parade (tickets Eventfinda).
Sun 7th: Natural tonics field workshop (fully booked)
Combined church service, 10am at Island Bay Presbyterian. Aubert's life and legacy; 10.30am compassion Mass at St Francis de Sales - celebrating Suzanne Aubert.
7.30pm - Politicians and theologians discuss the place of Compassion in Politics, Home of Compassion, 2 Rhine St.
ART EXHIBITION "For Compassion's Sake" continues at 88 The Parade until Sunday. Local artists; works for sale. This delightful "Teapot Woman" pictured here is a feature!

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
