Loud noise over northern Evan’s Bay Tonight.

Susan from Hataitai

Would anyone know what the loud rumbling noise is over Evan’s Bay tonight? It sounds like a large ship but we have not seen any ships. It has been for the last 2 hours.

What is Walking Football?

Simply put Walking Football is a slower paced version of football (soccer) played on a small sized field where you can only walk. There is no running or jogging. It is great for cardiovascular exercise and muscle & joint mobility. This format of the beautiful game is great for the 50+ age group who want a way to keep active and social or for those with injuries looking for a low impact, minimal contact sport to play.

Very successful in the UK, Walking Football has been around for about 7 years and is now played in over 26 countries around the world and now it has arrived here in New Zealand. Dreaming Tuataras Walking Football Club launched in Wellington last week.

It’s never too late to get started on a more active lifestyle. You do not have to be sporty or fit or ever kicked a football before, to join walking football and everybody has a laugh, it’s what we call a social sport. Age is no barrier

Research has shown leading an active lifestyle can add six-years of life expectancy for a man and five-years for a woman, and it’s never too late to get started.

All you need to wear is comfortable clothing and sneakers and bring some water.

Sessions are played indoors in the Green Room gym at The Hub, Toitu Poneke, Kilbirnie Crescent, Kilbirnie on Mondays at 12 noon and Tuesdays at 6pm. We would love you to come and join us. We are offering free sessions through December and January.

With warmer weather heading our way, gardening is a great way to stay fit and get regular doses of Vitamin D to help strengthen our bones.

The Home Safety checklist will give you practical tips on how to avoid falls, sprains and strains while pulling those stubborn weeds. For example, when you’re gardening avoid heavy lifting and use long-handled tools so you’re not bending over for long periods. Steady yourself when bending and standing, no pesky weed is worth falling for!

A new movement called Live Stronger for Longer is helping to reduce the risk of falls by providing practical information and free resources. We want to help you stay on your feet, and living the life you want to live.

Take the home safety checklist with your friends and family and join the movement today.

Proudly brought to you by ACC, HQ&SC, MOH and your local community health providers.
