Rewind five years seeing a rare kārearea (NZ falcon) gorging on a pigeon in central Wellington would have been out of the question.
In recent weeks the Wellington City Council has twice filmed a kārearea chomping on a pigeon. A council report notes that kārearea are not the only native bird making a comeback. Tūī, kākā, Kererū, korimako and kākāriki are all doing well.
What birds are you seeing in your garden?
The Sunday Star-Times is investigating unemployment in young people, particularly those who have just graduated high school or university and are struggling to find work, even part-time work, possibly because of Covid. If you or your child would be willing to speak to us please email email@example.com.
Are you looking for a place to hold your child’s birthday party?
Johnsonville Playcentre is available for hire!
We are an early childhood centre, and our facilities are available to hire during weekends and school holidays (although there will be reduced availability over Christmas).
We have a fantastic outdoor area that includes a fort, a bike track, two sandpits, two slides, a big deck with café blinds that can be rolled down in bad weather and swings.
We have a full kitchen and kids’ tables and chairs. Inside we have toys galore, including cars, trains, blocks, dress ups, a big doll’s house, puzzles and picture books. Lots of space and lots of fun!
As a non-Playcentre member you can hire our centre for up to 4 hours for $85 (and it's $25/hour after that) plus a $35 cleaning fee. We will also require $100 bond, which will be returned to you after the party.
Please note we are egg and nut free (eggs in cakes are fine).
If you are interested in finding out more, or booking your next birthday party at our centre, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
My wife and I would love to invite a dog into our home of her and I and two cats. We don't have a very large section so looking for something small to medium sized. We do want a puppy as the cats are the current owners of the house but are dog friendly - ish - so want a puppy to learn from the beginning that the cats think they are in charge. Breed or mongrel is not important. We have looked online for puppies but people are asking 1200 for a mongrel and this is ridiculous! I don't mind paying a little money to cover costs but I'm hoping someone has a box of puppies that need good homes. Let me know ......
