Need your kitchen knives sharpen? Have i got an offer for you

CK from Johnsonville

Marcus will make it sharp!

Our 20 year old autistic son, Marcus has always been a perfectionist. He has a certain way of getting things done right, even if it would mean doing them again and again.

My wife and I would often encourage Marcus to pursue his interests. His passion is in 3D drawing using Solidworks and Sketchup. However, those jobs are hard to come by. He is currently taking a bakery course in Weltec. He enjoys it so much that we get endless supplies of his baking treats. Never mind he left his set of chef uniform on the bus last week – second time in a month. Certainly raising a special needs child is challenging yet fulfilling.

We would like Marcus to acquire several skill sets so he can be more independent and eventually seek a job for his future.

6 months ago, we bought a knife sharpening machine (Tormek T-8) since Marcus has a knack for sharpening knives. Marcus has been busy sharpening all the knives in our household, including the neighbours’ and our church friends’.

Now, Marcus wants to offer his knife sharpening services to the community. He believes a good sharp knife should cut a carrot with ease. So Marcus will make sure all sharpened knives will have to go through the “carrot” test.

$5 per knife
$7 per cleaver

The prices are below the market rate as we just want Marcus to enjoy doing what he does and also to meet the community. The money he earns will be another step for us to help him understand to manage his funds when he eventually gets a job.

Please PM me if you would like Marcus to sharpen your knives.

And the 2024 Prospa Local Business Hero is...

Prospa

A huge congratulations to mother and son duo, Mary and Sam Danielson from The Puketapu Hotel.

The votes for all finalists have been tallied and they have been chosen by Neighbourly members across the country as the Prospa Local Business Hero of 2024.

The Puketapu Hotel was nominated by a local called Margaret and the nomination reads:
'On Feb 14, 2023, Cyclone Gabrielle flooded many of the rural areas. Puketapu Hotel went under perhaps half a meter of water. However, immediately Mary Danielson and her son, Sam Danielson, along with their loyal staff pulled it together to cook copious amounts of food that without electricity would have been wasted. Throughout the years many of us have been treated with a pub gathering where we can reconnect and a free meal. At Christmas there was Santa, games, gifts for kids, donated patchwork for adults, an ice cream truck and lots of camaraderie.
This February on the cyclone anniversary, they again pulled out the stops to give hundreds of us a special night. We are all tired of the cyclone cleanup and they understood that it was needed.'

Such a deserving business and team, well done Mary and Sam. And thank you to all those who voted!
