Bout 70 years go when I was a young boy in Miramar, our rubbish bin lived by our back door and was emptied once a week by the dustman who walked up the drive, around the sunroom, and tipped the rubbish bin into a big sack that was emptied into the back of a huge truck outside on the road. I remember hiding in the bin and I was thrown into the truck before I was allowed to go free. Maybe Upper Hutt should reintroduce the old method because I would like to get a free trip to the Silverstream tip.
