The Kiwi club finished their NRLW season on a high on Sunday, with a record-breaking 44-6 win over the Wests Tigers in Sydney, which saw them finish eighth (of 12 teams), three points outside the top-six playoffs, in what was their first campaign back after a four-year hiatus.

Because it’s been seen so rarely, scientists still know very little about it. But its striking features are already sparking debate about whether it should be given special protection, and some have even argued it could become an icon species for Papua New Guinea.

At a time when we so often hear about species disappearing, the return of this little shark is a reminder that nature can surprise us ... and that there’s always reason to hope.

By the end of 2025, Minister Shane Jones should know if the Japanese owners of Tokoroa’s Kinleith Mill will accept an energy deal to allow the mill to continue operating.

The regional development minister told the Waikato Times that a visit to his office by the Japanese ambassador in the middle of last year alerted him “to the prospect that the Japanese investors didn't see a clear future in New Zealand with escalating energy prices”.
