This is a very simple homemade unregulated 12V battery charger for vehicle batteries. It is based on a substantial step-down transformer and a full-wave rectifier. It has no sophistication but is constructed in a metal enclosure from quality parts and has served me well for a long time.
The input is by mains cable with switch and fuse.
The output has an ammeter 0-8amp, and each DC leg is individually fused. (If the +ve and –ve connectors should be shorted for even an instant, a fuse will blow!).
The unit is completely safe and no live circuits can be touched without opening up with the key (supplied).
The dimensions of the box are approximately 24cm wide x 13cm deep x 29cm high. Inspection and pick-up in Papamoa East. Suggested price $10. I am decluttering due to age and the need to move house.

This is one of 4 items posted together, previously, but each is now listed separately. This item is very simple in principle but is constructed in my home workshop from quality professional components. In fact, the main reason for acquiring these might be to obtain the parts.
This unit provides continuously adjustable unregulated variable voltage at 0-270VAC and DC. It is homemade and constructed in a professional polycarbonate “Himel” box.
Input power is supplied by a fitted 230VAC mains cable from a wall socket, and is fused at input to the box.
The system is based on a very nice VARIAC auto-transformer, DURATRAK Type V5H. This provides the unregulated AC from 0 to 270VAC.
This AC output is fed to output terminals via an on/off switch (and indicating LED); the output voltage terminals (phase, neutral and earth) are connected to by plug-in banana pins and also lugs.
The AC output from the VARIAC is also fed to a full-wave rectifier (25A 800V) which is connected to terminals similar to the AC output via its own on/off switch and LED indicator. This DC supplied is unregulated (except for a simple 100µF capacitor).
The unit is completely safe and no live circuits can be touched without opening up with tools.
The dimensions of the box are approximately 27cm wide x 18cm deep x 19cm high. Inspection and pick-up in Papamoa East. Suggested price $45 which is right for the Variac alone. I am decluttering due to age and the need to move house.

This is one of 4 items posted together, previously, but each is now listed separately.
This item is very simple in principle but is constructed from quality professional components. In fact, the main reason for acquiring these might be to obtain the parts.
The device provides a flat backlit platform about 30cm x 50cm. It was originally constructed for viewing 35mm photographic slides in quantity (about 40 at a time) for selection prior to electronic scanning .
The box has two light sources with separate power supplies. (1) 4 x 15W fluorescent lamps (compact twist type) individually fused and supplied at 230VAC via a fitted mains cable. And (2): 5 strips of LEDs, each strip of about 27 individual LED elements. These are supplied at 12VDC by a removable power pack plugged into the box (power pack included). Both sets of lights can be operated together.
The unit is completely safe and no live circuits can be touched without opening up with tools. This item is constructed inside a plastic tub-style box with its lid fastened by screws.
The dimensions of the box are approximately 51cm wide x 30cm deep x 28cm high.
Inspection and pick-up in Papamoa East. Suggested price $45. I am decluttering due to age and the need to move house.
