Believed to be from World War I the hat turned up in a box of donated goods at the shop last week. Rather than sell it off shop manager Gaye Ward decided the hat deserved some respect and presented it to Wellsford RSA president Terry Blakemore.
In return Terry gave Gaye a purple poppy badge that represents all the animals that have died during conflict, along with an Australian poppy from the club.
