Did you know that fairy terns are New Zealand's rarest birds?

Denise Piper Reporter from Rodney Times

The Department of Conservation has drawn its battle lines to help protect the country’s rarest bird – the critically endangered New Zealand fairy tern.
Also known as tara iti, there are fewer than 40 adult birds in the species, so the department is doing all it can to ensure breeding is successful, with Pakiri and Mangawhai being among the sites manned seven days a week.

Favourite summer holiday spots

Lorna Thornber Reporter from Stuff Travel

Hi everyone,
We'd be keen to hear about your favourite summer holiday spots in NZ. Is there somewhere you keep returning to year after year and, if so, what are the main attractions? What makes it such a stand-out spot? Any tips you may be able to offer on the best things to see and do there - as well as the best places to grab a drink or bite to eat - would be much appreciated. Please put 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article. Thanks again.

Missing Cat

Tracy from Red Beach

Our cat, Hugo, went missing from Whangaparaoa Rd, Red Beach (opposite the Retirement Village) on Friday afternoon the 20th of November. He is a male Burmese about 7 years old. Chocolate/Brown Colour. He has a small tuft of hair that sits differently to the rest of his coat on the top of his head. He's generally friendly. Can be talkative-especially when he's hungry. We are very worried - it is so unlike him to not be here. Any information about his whereabouts would be so gratefully received.
