Countdown is removing them from all stores and replacing them with a range of alternatives including bamboo, metal and paper straws.

The supermarket's move is expected to remove 11.6 million straws from circulation and the waste stream each year. WOW.

Do you think other NZ supermarkets should follow suit?

A warranty is extra to the protections in the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) and can’t override or replace these. This means a retailer can't just say you're out of luck because the warranty period has ended.

The CGA says that products have to be of an acceptable quality which means they must be fit for purpose (or do what they're made to do), last for a reasonable amount of time, be safe, and be free from any minor defects. What is “acceptable quality” is based on what you could reasonably expect taking into account things like the nature of the goods, what you paid for them, and any particular statements made about the goods.

If you have a problem with something you’ve bought and the warranty period has ended, you might still be entitled to have it repaired or replaced. Check out our information on your rights as a consumer or phone CAB on 0800 367 222.

Hi neighbours,

Is the solution to Auckland's traffic problem in our pockets? Our National Correspondent has been investigating how the movements of your smartphone are being tracked, collected and sold to government agencies. To read more about this, click here.

The location data Google and Spark collect from our smartphones is being studied to try and solve Auckland's biggest transport problems.

For example, some data is being used to help monitor the performance of new state highway infrastructure or upgrades, including measuring travel times through the Waterview Tunnel.

What are your thoughts on this? Were you aware of it? Do you think a solution to your city's roads can be found in the data? Let us know in the replies!

BTW we are South Auckland based and have wonderful Nannies living near you in Papakura, Karaka, Pukekohe & Waiuku.

1. You have already chosen the best and kindest option for your pet by choosing professional in-home care and The Pet Nannies Ltd are the best and kindest in-home pet care option because of the people that work there.

2. We started The Pet Nannies in early 2017 and we have put our heart and souls into creating a pet care service that provides top quality pet care and true peace of mind to South Auckland Pet Parents, in a market that is flooded with 'cowboys'.

3. A large focus for our team is being worthy of your trust and giving you the actual peace of mind that you are paying us for. Our service should be completely transparent and open so you can see you are getting what you are paying for.

4. One thing that is crucial to us is that there are foolproof systems in place to stop unacceptable errors. We have spent time pouring through customer feedback and complaints from other pet care businesses, Facebook groups and forums and learning from them, to ensure The Pet Nannies Ltd has all bases covered when it comes to your pets, your home and also our staff. Diane supervises all our nannies remotely and ensures her staff are safe and supported at all times.

5. We get it! We are pet owners and animal lovers too. We understand that this is your baby, and that we are entering your home. Our Pet Nannies are professional, mature, have ongoing training and also have been police checked. We have liability insurance and are members of Pet Sitters International. We are safety focused!

6. We follow your instructions about your dog's routines and habits, even the ones you know are barmy... especially those ones! We collect a mountain of information from you before we even start, to ensure we know & understand your dog as well as we can. We spend time working out the best & safest way to walk your dog and will customise any training required.

7. We embrace technology and use a dedicated Pet Care software that includes a really convenient client portal and safety alerts so nothing is forgotten & no one can be missed.

8. We know you're going to be wondering where we went and what we did on the walk so we send visit reports with timestamps, tracking maps and task lists accompanying messages and pictures from your Pet Nanny Dog Walker.

9. We actively provide home security as part of our task list, it's not just an afterthought! We also use unmarked cars and don't wear uniforms so as not to draw attention to the fact that you are not home.

I forgot to mention you receive $35 toward your first booking when you register today!

Visit our website www.thepetnannies.nz... to learn more about us, see our range of well priced services, meet the staff and peruse the personally recommended pet products for sale in our online shop.

Warm regards to all,
Diane
