BEFORE YOU PAY A DEPOSIT

Jill Smith from Citizens Advice Bureau Far North (CAB)

We have received a number of inquiries relating to deposits paid for goods and services. In one case a tradesperson did not show up and the deposit was not refunded.

Some clients have paid cash and have not received a receipt, while others have paid a 50% deposit on a fixed quote given over the phone. When the tradesperson visited the site they discovered they did not have the skills to perform the task and had under-quoted.

Before you pay a deposit, please study these links on what it means to pay a deposit when buying goods or services - www.cab.org.nz...

Scroll down to "paying a deposit" - www.consumerprotection.govt.nz...

If this has happened to you, please give us a call on 09 407 9829 or 0800 367 222. Visit us at 6 Cobham Road, Procter Library Building, Kerikeri, or email farnorth@cab.org.nz.

We are open Monday to Thursday 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. and Friday 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m."
