Poll: Should NZ schools have gender-neutral uniforms?

Sarah Reporter from Stuff

A new law in Wales says schools are required to have gender-neutral uniforms.

This means that while uniforms can include both skirts and pants, schools can't label these as "girls" or "boys" items.

Should NZ follow suit?

Capricious Corporate Countdown

I refer to Countdown's overnight 60% increase in the price of red grapes and their 30%plus overnight increase in the price of Nana's apple pies. I have been buying red grapes for some weeks now and paying $5.00 per kilo, simiarly with the apple pies, which were $5.00. I went in Countdown Waitangi yesterday to find that the red grapes had, as said earlier, shot up by 60% and the apple pies by over 30%. I aksed some of the branch staff but the answers were above thier pay grad. I am going to call Countdown HO and see what excuse(s) they offer but decided, in the meantime to have a little "rant" here and see what sort of feedback I get. I will post the capricious corporate Countdown excuse here. Watch this space. OH, I did a quick search for "How many Complaints about Countdown" and this popped up "www.nzherald.co.nz... " Headline " Commerce Commission keeps quiet on Countdown complaint 20 Mar, 2014 2:54pm" admitted it's over 5 years old, but interesting none the less, well, to ME at least

A young Taranaki family is having to start again after a fire caused by an electric blanket destroyed their home

Homeowner Brittany Nawani, said "the blanket was on for a matter of minutes before catching fire and spreading quite fast."

She will no longer be using electric blankets and hoped others learned from their tragedy.

Advice to electric blanket owners is to replace them every five years, but if damage such as cracked wires or failing controller is showing, the blanket should be replaced immediately.

It’s not easy growing up in New Zealand today. The Salvation Army and The Warehouse Group know that life can be tough for young people, and that's why we teamed up to develop an innovative and effective youth development programme called ‘Aspire’.

Launched in 2015, thanks to seed funding received from The Warehouse Group's 2014 Suppliers Dinner and ongoing funding support from Warehouse Stationery, Aspire has helped more than 1000 young people develop the skills, confidence, knowledge and networks they need to successfully address challenges and achieve their goals.

From now until the end of July, donations from Warehouse Stationery customers will help support hundreds of at-risk teens who aspire to change their lives.

Find out more about the programme and how to donate here: www.thewarehousegroup.co.nz...
