Emergency planning has started in Kaikohe, which could run out of water soon if dry weather continues. If that happens, residents would have to queue to collect their water from emergency tankers. Kaitaia and Dargaville also have strong water restrictions in place, and everyone is being asked to save water.

The Far North District Council has finally found a way to treat the toxic algal blooms in Lake Omapere so the water can be used as a back-up supply for Kaikohe - but the water still smells and tastes poor. What do you think? Is the water, and its delay, too hard to swallow?
