All non-essential businesses were required to shut their doors once the coronavirus lockdown came into effect, with only supermarkets and pharmacies among the few still trading.
However, the government has made changes to the essential services list, allowing a number of retailers the opportunity to open their doors and sell select products they deemed essential to life in New Zealand. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) announced the changes on Tuesday.
Here's a link with an update of which shops will be open for the remainder of lockdown and what you can purchase from them.

Red Cross is operating a shopping service for vulnerable people. The testing criteria has changed considerably, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern yesterday said the criteria for testing had been widened to include people with Covid-19 symptoms but not necessarily a history of travel, or exposure to another case. The labs have a capacity for 3700 tests per day, there are two more labs gearing up to provide tests as well looking up to 5000 tests per day. If in doubt call your medical centre.

Apparently it went … View moreI just saw on 7 Sharp last night that Zuru has initiated a call out to assist vulnerable people by offering to match $ for $ any donations people may wish to make. I understand it is facilitated through the Salvation Army and donations are used in the area they are gifted from. Apparently it went live on Friday afternoon and last night was already up to $700,000. That is amazing and great that the idea came out of our backyard. Well done Zuru. You out there might know about it, but we didn't. I will track them down and donate now!

The freephone service, established by the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group, is available between 7am and … View moreWaitomo, Waipā and Ōtorohanga residents can now freephone 0800 800 405 if they are struggling to access food, groceries, medication or other household goods and services.
The freephone service, established by the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group, is available between 7am and 7pm daily, but does not replace other government helplines already in operation.
“We’ve moved quickly to set up this helpline, which started operating today. We don’t know how big the need is right now, and the reality is that it’s likely to change while we’re under Alert Level 4,” said Waikato Region Civil Defence Group Controller, Julian Snowball.
“People who don’t need help right now may require assistance in a couple of weeks, and that’s where this freephone number will become more important when it comes to ensuring everyone has access to the basic necessities.”
Being in lockdown makes us experience all sorts of things: anxiety, loneliness, fear. Need to talk? Free phone or text 1737.
