Did your family get a baby bunny for Christmas or is your adult rabbit due for their annual vaccination?

In New Zealand we have a highly contagious disease known as Rabbit Calicivirus Disease (RCD), also known as Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (HVD). This is invariably lethal in all rabbits.

It is easily spread and infected rabbits can spread it through faeces, urine, saliva, nasal discharge and blood. The main vector for transmission of the disease are flies.

Most rabbits die very quickly within a few days and often without showing any obvious clinical signs before they die.

There are 3 strains of the virus in New Zealand and we have available a vaccine that will offer good immunity against 2 of the strains, sadly no vaccine is 100% effective.

Vaccination can be started at 10-12wks of age with just 1 vaccine required yearly. If starting vaccines before 10-12wks of age, then they will need a booster every 3wks until they reach 12wks of age.

Krystal’s 8-week children’s classes are a great way to keep children happy, creative and busy after the school day. The activities are designed to engage their imaginations while giving them a sense of achievement when they make something they can take home at the end.

Krystal will teach basic hand-building techniques in a safe, fun and creative environment. Parents are welcome to stay too!
