We are excited that acclaimed pianist, Katherine Austin, will be playing the premiere of A Walk in Hamilton Gardens next week!

Written especially for her by composer Janet Jennings, Katherine will take you through a musical interpretation of these wonderful and varied gardens in this one-only performance at the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival.

Head of Piano Studies at the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music, Katherine Austin is one of New Zealand’s leading pianists and performs regularly around NZ and overseas, touring frequently for Chamber Music New Zealand, and broadcasting regularly on Radio New Zealand Concert Programme. Pianist of the Tennant-Austin Duo for the past 23 years, her work with the New Zealand Chamber Soloists now occupies a large portion of her performing and concert life, with regular tours to Europe, UK, Asia, North and South America, and Australia.

Katherine has released several CDs on the Atoll label and has performed as soloist with many orchestras including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, and Opus Orchestra.

Francis has been a significant figure in Hamilton’s musical scene since moving here in 1994. A former Director of Music at both Southwell School and St Paul's Collegiate School - Hamilton, he now carries out a busy schedule of performance as Piano Accompanist for the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music. A choral conductor as well as pianist, Francis served as Assistant Conductor of the Hamilton Civic Choir for many years.

This year, Cecily was delighted to receive the Wallace Corporation Blues Award for University of Waikato's … View moreCecily has recently completed a Master of Music at the University of Waikato, under the tutelage of Glenese Blake, and supervision of Stephanie Acraman and Dr. Rachael Griffiths-Hughes. This year, Cecily was delighted to receive the Wallace Corporation Blues Award for University of Waikato's Performing and Creative Arts Person of the Year.

Cecily has been an alto soloist with VOX Baroque, the Edgecumbe, New Zealand Choir, Cantando Choir Hamilton, Hamilton Civic Choir, and Scholars Baroque Aotearoa, and has attended Chamber Music New Zealand’s 2017 Bach Cantata Residency, with Juliard415 and Masaaki Suzuki. She has played the role of Cherubino in Waikato University’s 2016 production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Cornelia in Handel Consort and Quire’s 2019 production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto. In her spare time, Cecily enjoys composing humorous songs for ukulele, which can be found on her YouTube channel, Socratena -
