Tamahere’s controversial chicanes unlikely to return
Controversial chicanes laid out on Birchwood Lane in Tamahere are unlikely to return, and the speed limit left at 50kph, until this summer at least says the Waikato District Council.
The chicanes were vandalised and quietly removed at the end of July but a survey of locals about what to do produced inconclusive results, leaving members of the council’s Tamahere Community Committee to decide on their fate.
From rugged campsite to 7.5ha resort
Grant Kilby has always loved camping. His mum was director of health at the YMCA, and he would attend YMCA camps in the school holidays. “I think it was mandatory that I was there,” he jokes.
He went on camping holidays with his parents, and later, took his own kids.
“Camping’s been in my blood.”
