Teachers striking

Dianne from Hamilton East

Am I the only person who is tired of hearing about teachers striking? Enough is enough. Having worked as a teacher in Early childhood I have an idea of the commitment, drive and energy that is required to be an optimal teacher, and realise that in the schools system it is an extremely demanding role, at times and does require 100% involvement.
I also note that unlike the ECE, all school teachers get at least 10-12 weeks paid holiday.
At this point, I can feel the arrows getting ready to be drawn lol
I also note that the teachers have successfully won in 2019 a $272 million deal, not including the 1.2 billion over four years.
I also note, that before online teaching was organised and rolled out, and also after this, teachers managed to have some time not working, at home.
At the moment, my grandchildren and hundreds of children are once again being denied THEIR rights, which is, simply to gain an education that is on going and free of disruption
All I ask is that teachers desist their strike action, put our children FIRST and think of the millions of other jobs that are significantly lower paid, just as worthwhile, without 12 weeks holiday and greater hours.
In this time of huge strife in terms of the effects of climate change, ie the devastation caused by the recent storms, our country needs to work together, and support each other.

From rugged campsite to 7.5ha resort

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

Grant Kilby has always loved camping. His mum was director of health at the YMCA, and he would attend YMCA camps in the school holidays. “I think it was mandatory that I was there,” he jokes.

He went on camping holidays with his parents, and later, took his own kids.
“Camping’s been in my blood.”
