Plans to build up to 60 new state-owned homes in Endeavour Ave in Flagstaff, and another 47 in Melville, have been canned and the land could be sold as the Government continues its “reset” of Kāinga Ora.

Minister of Housing Chris Bishop and Kāinga Ora chief executive Matt Crockett last week announced the state housing provider would ditch plans for 212 state housing projects around the country, cancelling plans for up to 3500 new homes.

After nearly 15 years sweetening the lives of locals, Theobroma Chocolate Lounge at Chartwell has closed its doors - unable to weather the pressure of rising costs and a sharply declining market.

Co-owner Balaka Malhotra, who ran the business with her husband Ian Roberts-Thomson, said she fought to keep it going, but the odds were stacked too high.

Theobroma’s Centre Place café in the CBD, which the couple also owns, is still running - for now.
