New 2degrees 5G celltower on Hillcrest Rd at viewing point down to beach
2degrees propose to install a huge 5G cell phone tower at/near the trig point on Hillcrest Rd (opp 104 Hillcrest Rd). This tower will dominate the skyline and be clearly visible from almost all parts of the Hatfield’s Beach, including across the northern valley towards Waiwera and southern valley to Silverdale. The tower will be visible from almost all the Beachwood Dr subdivision.
This spot is extremely popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and Sunday drivers as a stopping point to enjoy the beautiful view down to Hatfields Beach. Having this monopole installed right here seems a sacrilege.
Consultation with residents by 2degress has been minimal (and dismal) and we haven’t had sufficient opportunity to discuss with them the placing of this tower or the impact it will have on us. 2degrees position is “we’ve decided on the location and that’s final”.
We’re not against all cell towers and concede they’re a necessary part of modern life. However, there must be alternative positions that won’t impact beautiful Hatfields Beach as much as the proposed one.
The resource consent application number is LUC60454144. This is at APPLICATION stage NOW i.e. it’s in front of the planners, who are making decisions NOW. If you can help in any way, we’d be grateful.
