Raised garden beds are ideal for the family to grow your own vegetables or other plants and there are many benefits in using them including

- extending the planting season significantly as the beds will warm faster and hold the warmth
- allowing better drainage
- as the gardener doesn’t walk on the garden bed, the soil doesn’t become compacted
- the soil will remain light and loose allowing it to hold more air helping the vegetable roots to grow with less effort
- ability to reduce the number of weeds
- if using close plant spacing your raised vegetable garden bed will create a micro-climate which will contain moisture and further discourage weeds.

Fill with compost, mulch, good soil and fertilzer mix.

If you are looking for a raised garden bed or planter box see Out of the Woods Woodshop here on Neighbourly.

(CDHB YAC or YAC) The CDHB YAC is the only council within NZ that has youth focusing on youth only in the medical sector. We cover from Ashburton to the West Coast. That was a big deal because despite a voluntary recall for Takata airbags floating around since 2013, the government – taking a page from the Aussies – decided to step in after realising the recall was progressing far too slowly, with less than a quarter of those affected in New Zealand replaced since 2013.

That kind of success rate, however, is surprisingly all too common for voluntary recalls. Consumer NZ estimates that “less than half” of product recalls actually work, and while it’s normally better for items where customers details are noted down (like cars), common household items that are cheap and easily replaceable (like indoor electric heaters) can remain in use months – even years – after a recall is issued.

Below is a selection of recalled items we think are most relevant to consumers (part two looks at items specifically targeted at babies and children). Of course, it goes without saying that this is by no means an exhaustive list – for that you need to be looking at the government’s official website.
