Plants burgled from ChCh South Community Gardens

Christine Blance from Christchurch South Community Gardens

We recently had our locked shade house broken into ( lock bolt cut or smashed)  - and several hundred dollars worth of heritage tomato and other plants stolen. These were destined for fundraising and for planting into the community garden here on Strickland Street. Stealing from the community is a low act in the extreme. We have a grainy visual of the pair on our CCTV up the drive filling their boot with our plants at 3am last Sunday morning and have a good visual of the woman's back pack . The registration of the car was obscured but at least we know what happed to our precious plants which we put so much effort into growing and looking after.

If anyone notices a pile of heritage tomato and other  plants in someone's garden or for  sale at a garage sale that clearly didn't come from a commercial garden centre - bring one of the labels to me to see if I can identify the writing on it - it may be mine.  Many people have the view that all gardeners are honest for some reason - that is not my experience in the 20 years I have been working in this field.

We are steeling ourselves for the inevitable  theft of our hose fittings this year - happens every year over  the summer.

If any one can help with watering during Dec & Feb - let me know info@cscommunitygardens.net.nz
