SCERT Expo event tonight!

Julie from Somerfield

A reminder that tonight our SCERT (Somerfield Community Emergency Response Team) are fortunate to have Tyler Barton present to all of our communities about the Alpine Fault impending to rupture (but hopefully not in our lifetime!?!!)
It will be an interesting & informative evening thanks to this really lovely Somerfield Local University of Canterbury PhD student!!
We will also acknowledge the events since Friday 15th March when our world and city in particular changed!!
Thanks to the Cashmere High Students who will participating in our event on behalf of all who may be grieving following the Mosque Mass shootings.
We have many fun games / novelty items to share with anyone attending - Thanks to the All Right Campaign and the NZ Blood Service!!!
We welcome anyone at all to join us and hope you find it a worthwhile experience and you are able to meet some residents /groups within our various communities.
If you or your community group are contemplating ideas for creating a New preparedness / response group then this will also be a great event for you to Not miss!
If anyone local to Somerfield has not yet received a SCERT package and would like for one - please either pick one up tonight or let me know.

Warm Regards and Kia Kaha to everyone for tomorrow morning's National Memorial event!

Poll: Pedestrian access is being extended to the Ōtakaro Avon River - good idea?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Pedestrian access from one of Christchurch’s favourite streets is being extended all the way to the Ōtakaro Avon River. This new 12m-wide pathway will give you a direct, easy route from the street to the river promenade ... perfect for a stroll, a coffee run, or just soaking up the riverside vibes.

We want to know: In your view, what makes a city people-friendly?
What else should our urban areas be doing to support better community connections?

Curious about the full plans? You can check them out here.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
