My Resene Upcycling Award entry
Nominating my mum, Helen McFetrish from Hei Hei/ Hornby - a 69 year great grandmother who upcycled 2 waste plastic reels from a local glass manufacturer, into a giant car garage/track/activity centre for her great grandson (about to turn two) who loves his little cars (used to be his dads). He calls his great grandmother 'Mumma'.
Thermaseal (located in Hornby) posted on FB giving away large plastic reels which have to be dumped because they serve no immediate purpose. Mumma took two of the reels and got to work creating a neat activity centre, for her favourite little boy. For the project she used the two reels, some 3mm ply wood, some plastic water piping, rubber edging, screws, Resene paint test pots and left over Resene interior paint, and other bits and Bob's from around the house. Is adding old castor wheels to make it easy to move around too soon.
Currently finishing of another small reel, which will sit on top of the large activity centre, as an emergency centre & helicopter landing pad.
A great effort by a great granny we thought :) Cheers, Sarai Roper
