Cyclist killed on 'nightmare' crossing near Christchurch intersection

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

A cyclist killed was fatally hit by a van on Brougham St, near the Christchurch Southern Motorway, on Thursday evening.

The Press understands the cyclist, a man in his 50s, was crossing the road when the van hit him. It is not yet clear if the cyclist had the green light to cross.

At least 27 other crashes have happened on the stretch of Brougham St where it intersects with Simeon and Collins streets since January 2000, according to NZTA crash data. Read more here.

Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those involved.

Share your New Zealand music memories...

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

It's NZ Music Month and New Zealand really has some beautiful songs from artists that we call our own.

Whether it's April Sun in Cuba, Don't Forget your Roots, or How Bizarre or Bic Runga's 'Sway' - songs have a way of unlocking memories and evoking old feelings.

In honour of NZ Music Month, share a New Zealand song or artist that is special to you and explain why.

Handyman Hamish

Jeanine from Merivale

If anyone is looking for a handyman I would highly recommend Hamish. He sees things through to completion and has a can do attitude. He is a great guy with a good sense of humour.
