Special service for Canterbury's 'heart angels'
A special service will be held at Christchurch's Abberley Park Hall at 3.30pm on Saturday (November 3) to celebrate the children who are dealing with heart conditions.
About 12 Kiwi babies are born with heart defects every week. Many have to undergo multiple open-heart surgeries. It is the most common serious birth abnormality and the leading cause of death for infants and babies in New Zealand.
The Heart Kids charity supports these children - like preschooler Poppy Taggart, pictured with her parents, Jo and Ashley.
Christchurch Family Support co-ordinator Margaret Hewitt-Hawker says Saturday's event is a chance to acknowledge these children and celebrate their lives with other heart families.
