Hope for 'forgotten' suburb after Christchurch red zone residents told they can stay
Residents of Christchurch's "forgotten" red zone of Brooklands hope recent decisions about the city's quake-damaged landscape will give certainty about the future of their own community.
Plans to regenerate the 600-hectare Avon River red zone released on Friday also ruled out the compulsory purchase of homes, allowing people who did not sell to the Government to remain there.
Now, those who refused to move out of Brooklands after it was shattered in the earthquakes (like Stephen Bourke, pictured) want the same assurances – and believe the promise to those in the river corridor could set a precedent.
