Be the front-line point of contact for thousands of boaties

Mike from Coastguard Northern Region

Looking to help save lives at sea? If you want to help keep boaties safe on the water (and whether or not you're a boatie yourself), consider a role with the highly professional Operations Centre team as a volunteer Radio Operator.

Coastguard is the charity saving lives at sea, and is almost entirely staffed by over 2,000 dedicated volunteers from communities across the country. Last year the Operations Centre in Mechanics Bay logged 114,738 VHF radio calls from boaties making trip reports, kept watch on over 17,805 bar crossings, and coordinated search and rescue responses to bring 5,407 boaties back home to safety.

By becoming a volunteer, you can be part of a close-knit team dedicated to saving lives at sea. Your contribution may one day save the life of a boatie in need.

• Can you communicate clearly and with confidence?
• Are you fluent in English?
• Do you have a technical mind and are you organised?
• Can you remain positive and calm under pressure?

If so, we’re looking for you! Full training provided. Please apply today at www.coastguard.org.nz... or call the team on 0800 BOATIE (262 843) – we’d love to hear from you!

Poll: Would you want an unconventional funeral?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Funerals can cost as much as $22,000 and the planning can be stressful especially at a time when loved ones are grieving. Some New Zealanders are re-imagining funerals by making their own coffin or having a relaxed ceremony at home. Would you want a less traditional funeral? Share your thoughts below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.

Original Art on Baseball Caps / Hats

Connie from Remuera

UPDATE 29.4 The Wisteria & Butterfly Cap is sold.

Hello everyone,

I am presenting a limited release of hand-painted artwork on Baseball Caps. There will only be 29 caps in this range. For now, please do have a look at the first seven Caps attached. I will post more in the future as I work on them.

Price per piece = $55.00.
Fabric look/feel is suede-like (not real suede). It is a really nice quality cap. You can zoom out each photo to view better.
Adjustable backstrap with metal clasp.
NOTE: Some Caps have more than one photo to give you views from different sides (I can send you more photos if required).

Mother's Day is just two weeks away. This would make a really memorable yet practical gift for that special person. OR...get it for yourself! Just know that when you are wearing it to brunch, on your walks or at tennis/golf, YOU are the only person in the world with this original piece of wearable art ☺️.

Pickup in Remuera or happy to courier:
P&p $16.00 (with signature)
Rural addresses +$5.50.
If you want it sent overseas, I am happy to quote.

For the remaining Caps that I will be painting, if you have any suggestions that you would like to see, or if you would like to order a cap with a particular bird/flower et , I am happy to consider. No portraits please! That would be too hard on fabric 😅.

Have a lovely weekend,
Connie.
PS. I apologise for the low photo resolution as I had to resize them down to be able to post.
