What needs to be done to keep the CBD vibrant during the coronavirus pandemic?
Hi neighbours. ‘For lease’ signs and vacant shops have been popping up on prime retail areas across central Auckland in recent months.
There are at least 13 empty retail spaces on Ponsonby Rd alone.
Heart of the City chief executive Viv Beck said Covid-19 had contributed to an increase in tenancies for lease in central Auckland.
Prior to the virus hitting New Zealand, empty retail spaces were few and far between, with demand “outstripping” what was available.
“We can see that leases aren’t filling as fast as they once were. We’re conscious of the impact this has on vibrancy.”

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
