Central Leader hire kids for paper runner are underpaid

Sanjay from Sandringham

Hi Everyone,
It is helpful If your kid is applying for Central Leader paper runner.

Last year my son age 12 years applied for Paper Runner in response to the Fairfax media's advertisement on Central Leader paper. The picture of the advertisement is attached for your reference.
We encouraged our kid to do this job so that he can learn to work and take responsibility.
The advertisement itself mentions that the job takes on an average 1 hour to deliver the papers. The minimum wage for 1 hour was $15.25 and my son was paid only 8.05 to deliver the whole lot of papers. The actual size of the papers can not fit in one bag and make almost 2-3 round of papers in standard bag provided by Fairfax (please see the picture). Which takes more than 90 minutes to deliver him the papers.

When I wrote this concern to the office, a gentleman advised that we only pay fix amount $8.05 for this work, which is 161 papers. They insert property sale and other ad materials in the papers which makes it too heavy to carry by a 12 year old kid.

The gentleman in their office doesn't want to understand that its not good for a kid, these jobs are to motivate kids not to harass them. Ultimately he advised me to resign if we didn't like it, and we resigned.

We can't see a 12 year kid to get harassed and get used to it. Its not about money but its about living and working with dignity and stand by what is right. They must be hiring other kids for same purpose and paying 1/3rd of actual effort made by a kid.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
