New benefit for migrant workers starts in December

Citizens Advice Bureau Ōrākei-Remuera from Citizens Advice Bureau Ōrākei-Remuera

If you are a migrant worker or on a student or visitor visa and facing financial difficulty, the Ministry of Social Development may grant you temporary financial aid (a benefit). Visit your local Citizens Advice Bureau (at Orakei Community Centre, Kepa Rd) to find out more.
"From December, migrant workers who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic - as well as student and visitor visa holders who are facing financial hardship and can't get home - will be able to get an emergency benefit for a limited time. The emergency benefit will be paid at the same rate as jobseeker support. That means single people will get $251 a week, people with a partner and children will get $428 a week, while sole parents will get $375 a week." (Radio New Zealand)

Poll: Would you want an unconventional funeral?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Funerals can cost as much as $22,000 and the planning can be stressful especially at a time when loved ones are grieving. Some New Zealanders are re-imagining funerals by making their own coffin or having a relaxed ceremony at home. Would you want a less traditional funeral? Share your thoughts below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
