Dog walkers celebrate return of Footrot Flats mural, Big King Reserve

Many thanks to all the dog owners who have posted cute photos of their pooches on the Watercare Facebook page!

The Footrot Flats mural was recently defaced by graffiti vandals. Watercare cleaned it up and restored the picture and now dozens of dog owners have responded.

You may have noticed the beautiful Pohutukawa tree flowers are in full bloom 🌺🎄

We all know this iconic Kiwi Christmas tree is an important symbol for New Zealanders at home and abroad. But did you know "Pohutukawa and its cousin rata also hold a prominent place in Maori tradition. Legends tell of Tawhaki, a young Maori warrior, who attempted to find heaven to seek help in avenging the death of his father. He fell to earth and the crimson flowers are said to represent his blood."
