Author Bio: Jackie has been writing fiction since she was eleven years old. Mild mannered fantasy/SF/pseudo-literary writer by day, obsessive romance writer by night, she used to balance her writing with the more serious job of librarianship until a chance meeting with another romance writer prompted her to throw off the shackles of her day job and devote herself to the true love of her heart - writing romance. First published in 2013, she has now released more than 70 books (and counting!).

Parking: please be careful where you park because Mt Eden Rd heading south is a clearway until 7pm. Parking is available in the Essex Road public card park (free after 6pm), in the side-streets (no time limits after 6pm) and on Mt Eden Rd heading north. For more parking information, please visit www.mounteden.co.nz....

Bring along a reusable cup: we’ll serve complimentary cups of tea and iced tea.

BOOK PEOPLE

You have to break some rules to write your own story…

When Kate, a fledgling bookseller, decides to open a bookshop that celebrates the kinds of genre fiction she loves to read (popular and fun!), she’s surprised to find that not everyone in the town is as excited as she is.

Least excited of all? Sebastian, owner of the highbrow bookshop across the road, who has rules for everything: the kind of books he sells, the clothes he wears, and the people he dates (no-one local).

When the pair find themselves working together on the town’s literary festival, their growing attraction becomes harder and harder to ignore. Professional rivalry aside, just one steamy kiss can’t mean anything, can it?

Main benefits will increase by over 3 percent, instead of 1.66 percent, on 1 April with the Government’s decision to annually adjust benefit rates to increases in the average wage.
If you're paid weekly
=================
In the week of 31 March your payment will be at the old rate. This is because we pay you for the week that's just been.
In the week of 7 April you'll get part of your payment at the old rate, and part at the new.
In the week of 14 April your whole payment will be at the new, increased rate.
If you're paid fortnightly
===================
1 April is partway through your pay period, so on 8 April you'll get a partial increase.
You'll get the full increase on 19 April – this is paid early (instead of 22 April) due to Easter.
More people can get support
=======================
Income and asset limits and cut-out points for some financial supports will also go up. This means more people could get things like:
Accommodation Supplement
Disability Allowance
Childcare Assistance
Community Services Card, and
help with urgent and unexpected costs.
About the increase
================
The Annual General Adjustment happens every year on 1 April. On this day benefits and most other financial supports from us are adjusted to account for the cost of living (inflation). Some income thresholds are adjusted by the average wage growth.
The new rates are based on either the:
==============================
Consumers Price Index (2.22% rise), or
net average wage (3.51% rise).
Main benefits are adjusted to the Consumers Price Index.
==============================
For April 2025 NZ Super and Veteran's Pension rates receive an extra boost, making their total increase around 3 percent because of the relationship to the net average wage level.
==============================
Impact on your other payments
When your main benefit increases, you may find this changes other payments you get from us, like Accommodation Supplement or Temporary Additional Support.
If you have housing contributions for emergency, transitional, or social housing, your contributions may change as well.
The total amount you get after the 1 April changes won't be less than what you're getting now.
Changes to other payments if your main benefit goes up
How to check your payments
========================
From Tuesday 1 April you can check your new payments by either:
logging in to MyMSD, or
calling our Service Express self-service line on 0800 33 30 30

Auckland Transport has advised the Mt Eden Village Business Association that the fare for the 64 Bus will change. Since its inception in mid-2020, as a rail replacement bus, the 64 Bus has had a fare of 1 cent. However, as from 27 April 2025, a normal bus fare will apply. Please note that Auckland Transport’s zone fare system allows trips on the 64 Bus to include a transfer to or from another bus or train without additional cost for many journeys. Information about bus fares can be found on the AT website here: at.govt.nz...

64 BUS FUTURE ROUTE CHANGE IN 2026
When the Maungawhau Station re-opens in 2026, the route of the 64 Bus will change. Instead of travelling on Sandringham Rd, it will travel on Dominion Road. When this change is made, the 64 Bus will continue to travel between Newmarket and St Lukes, but it will no longer travel on Walters Road or Sandringham Road and it will not go to Kingsland Station.

But shorter days don’t mean shorter experiences. There’s plenty to do to make the most of Auckland, even when there are fewer hours of sunshine. Take the opportunity to embrace this season of change with new ideas to boost your mood, from maximising vitamin D to rediscovering the warmth of a brisk walk.

Out to lunch
For those who work or study indoors, the end of daylight saving time can often mean that, in the height of winter, your days start and end in darkness. Reduced daylight hours can limit your ability to produce vitamin D, which is not only linked to bone health and muscle function, but has been shown to affect the synthesis of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that’s key for mood regulation and happiness.
One way to squeeze more vitamin D into your day is by spending your lunch break outdoors.
