Matariki Ki Orakei - events happening locally
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei will be the iwi manaaki (host iwi) for this year’s Matariki Festival, celebrating the Māori new year and new beginnings.
There is plenty happening on a regional scale but also some really lovely local activities which the local board is helping to fund. These events include a largescale planting day, weaving opportunity and te reo Maori lessons. Follow the link below to learn more.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
