KiwiRail is working in your neighbourhood | 7 and 8 July
Our KiwiRail team will be in your neighbourhood cleaning the ‘ballast’ (the stones under the railway tracks) to make sure it continues to drain well and hold the tracks firmly in place. To work safely and efficiently, we need to do some of this cleaning at night when there are fewer trains on the line. If you live along the railway you’ll notice some noise. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
