Send a Level 3 Love Letter to someone you miss

Hi Neighhours,

It's been a tough last few weeks, right? When life gets hard and the world gets scary, it's our loved ones we turn to for support.

But this extraordinary coronavirus pandemic is different. Many of us can't see our most special friends and whānau because we want to keep them safe, and we want to get through this as a nation by following social distancing and Covid-19 Alert Level 3 rules.

While thousands of people are returning to work, visiting friends and family outside of your bubble may still be off the cards for some time longer.

Do you have a message for someone you can't see in person? A shout out to a sibling or best friend? A much-loved and missed grandparent? A new baby you need to virtually cuddle?

Level 3 Love Letters is an opportunity to share a video message for a loved one on Stuff.

You can upload your video here so we can share it with them and New Zealand

From 11am NZST on Thursday 30 April until Sunday 17 May, Artfair.co.nz will be hosting a Virtual Art Fair where you will discover more than 30 galleries from New Zealand and Australia displaying works that would have otherwise been seen at the 2020 Auckland Art Fair.

The Virtual Art Fair is in recognition of the artists who have already made special works for the Auckland Art Fair that couldn’t happen, and the galleries who have supported them in doing so.

“It comes at a time of global uncertainty, when the importance of art, community and culture are especially apparent,” their team said in a recent statement.

The Auckland Art Fair is designed to be “a celebration – as best we can – of the talent and diversity of art making by artists from our region; not only across New Zealand and Australia, but also around the wider Pacific-rim. We hope that, wherever possible, some of these artists and galleries will be supported by someone buying a work of art.”

Browse, look, enquire and consider as you get to know new galleries and artists in support of contemporary culture at a time when the artists and galleries really need it.

With bed-frizzed hair, and onesie still on, my 7-year-old daughter Morgan ran out to greet Pops after five weeks of no hugs and social distancing under the level 4 lockdown. My dog bounded behind Morgan, and (in my head), I cartwheeled down the driveway at his arrival. Level 3 was here and I could extend my bubble. Thank God.

Read more about Central Otago reporter Jo McKenzie-McLean's bubble extension here and tell us if you've made any changes to your bubble under level 3 or how you're getting by.

A Government funding back-track will push some general practices "over the edge" as they struggle to deal with a predicted "avalanche" of post-coronavirus lockdown health issues, the New Zealand Medical Association (NZMA) says.

Dr Jan White, chair of NZMA's GP Medical Council, said following a Cabinet decision, the promise of another $22 million to support front-line GPs had been withdrawn.

Central Otago GP Dr Greg White, who owns a small practice in the Cromwell, said he would have to make staff redundant in coming weeks if the extra funding was not provided. Read more here
