TSUNAMI WARNING for New Zealand coastal areas
NEMA have issued a further TSUNAMI WARNING for New Zealand coastal areas following this morning’s magnitude 8.1 earthquake near Kermadec Islands Region.
It is expected that New Zealand coastal areas will experience strong and unusual currents and unpredictable surges at the shore.
PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE WATER AND AWAY FROM OUR BEACHES, RIVERS AND ESTUARIES.
Strong currents and surges can injure and drown people. There is a danger to swimmers, surfers, people fishing, small boats and anyone in or near the water close to shore.
