Alarming' incident sees man allegedly threaten woman at knifepoint

Caryn Wilkinson Reporter from Community News

A woman in her 70s has allegedly been threatened at knifepoint in an "alarming" incident.

A 31-year-old man has been charged over the incident.

Police said the man approached the woman who was in her car in Auckland's Ōrewa on Thursday evening.

The man is alleged to have gotten inside the woman's car on Florence Ave before pulling out a "large knife" and telling her to get out of the car.

The woman was able to take the keys out of the ignition and get out of her car before finding a member of the public to help her.

Police were called while the man ran from the scene.

An investigation into the incident by police found a 31-year-old fitting the description the next day, and he was arrested.

Police have charged the man with assault with intent to rob and he is due to appear in North Shore District Court on Monday.

A police spokesperson said the alleged incident was "alarming" for the victim and it was fortunate that no one had been physically harmed.

"We are ensuring she is being provided with victim support."

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
