Back-up pipe passes test

The Team from Wellington Water

As many residents on Wellington’s south coast know, a liner was successfully installed in a ruptured pipe under Mt Albert, after a high-tech international collaboration, and is now conveying sludge from Moa Point to our de-watering plant near the Southern Landfill.

To help ensure sludge trucks won’t be needed to protect the marine environment again, the second ruptured pipe under Mt Albert has been lined as back-up in the case of failure and for regular maintenance.

Here we have Jaden and Andrew from our contractors on this job, Brian Perry Civil and Hadlee Brunton, running a pressure test with water on the second pipe as part of the commissioning process. The 5-hour test was successful and this back-up pipe will soon be fully operational.

A big thanks to everyone involved in this massive collaborative effort!
