It makes cents!
The Kiwi Bottle Drive is running a bottle deposit scheme in Lyall Bay this weekend. Bring your bottles and cans to Lyall Bay Community Church between 10am and 11am and turn your trash into cash!
You'll get 10 cents for every can, glass, or plastic bottle! There's $200 to give away, so the first 2,000 bottles will get the money!
Why?
Some of you will remember the days when people got paid 5c per glass bottle returned. It greatly helped to keep bottles out of the environment.
If we reintroduced a system like this we'd have way higher recycling rates, less litter on our beaches and streets and awesome fundraising opportunities for our local schools and community groups.
Bottle Deposits are being introduced ALL across the world as a best-practice way to move us towards zero waste, supporting both people and planet, and New Zealand needs to join in!
