Newtown Post Office

Deepa-Rose from Miramar

As some of you may know, the Newtown post office and kiwibank is closing. This is part of an ongoing move by NZPost to change its business model. It has been closing post offices and removing post boxes for some years now, as well as raising prices and reducing services.

Yes things are changing and fewer letters are sent, but NZPost seems determined to make it as hard and expensive to post a letter as possible. Meanwhile businesses switch to the largely ununionised private operator DX Mail.

Locals are organising on the grounds that as a State Owned Enterprise NZPost should be serving the public rather than just trying to maximise profit. There's a paper petition going around and I'm helping by running the online version. It would be great if you could sign it, and pass on this message to others please.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

FREE 10-liter emergency water bottles

Michael from Newtown

Merry Christmas -

I have around twenty, empty 10-liter distilled water bottles to serve as emergency water storage. I saved them for my friends, but they already have their own water supplies. Take as many as you like. Please respond to this notice if you are interested.

Best wishes - Michael
