Ever wondered how to effectively water your garden?

The Team from Wellington Water

We've created a handy factsheet to help you decide what the best watering solution is for your garden.

Our top tips now the warmer weather has arrived are to:
• only water your garden if the soil is dry 10cm below the surface;
• only use what you need to; and
• focus your efforts on plants that need water (vegie gardens) rather than worrying about the lawn.

Water patrols are now in place in Upper Hutt, to ensure people are following garden watering restrictions.

Restrictions are based on the odds and evens system, which allows Upper Hutt residents to use one unattended watering system (sprinkler, irrigation system, soaker hose), from 6-8am and 7-9pm, according to their street address and the date:
• Residents of odd numbered houses (eg 1, 13, 57) can water on odd numbered days (eg 1st, 15th, 23rd) of the month, between 6am and 8am, and 7pm and 9pm only.
• Residents of even numbered houses (eg 2, 4, 12) can water on even numbered days (eg 2nd, 6th and 24th) of the month, between 6am and 8am, and 7pm and 9pm only.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
