Poll: Do you think codeine-containing products should be taken off shelves?
Codeine-containing products may become harder to obtain after the Waitemata District Health Board voted to make it a prescription-only medicine, despite it being opposed by pharmacists.
A report by the Community Alcohol and Drug Services (CADS) was submitted to the district health board's meeting on July 5.
It wanted the DHB to call "for a national approach for tighter controls on the availability of codeine to reduce the harm related to codeine-abuse".
