Hello neighbours,
I am still looking for the perfect home for Possum..... Do you know a kind, gentle cat person who would be keen to adopt my beautiful big boy Possum? I am moving to Perth and he would find the move so stressful being a gentle soul.

Possum (approx. 9yrs) is one of the most wonderful cats I have ever met (I have worked in cat rescues so have met quite a few…)

Possum is so gentle and loving and is always keen to rest alongside me on the sofa as he is too large for my lap. He is a big cat. He was abandoned in Matakatia 7yrs ago and I was unable to find where he came from. If I could find somewhere local for him that would be amazing.

Possum loves company and is a wonderful companion so would do well with someone who is home often. He would appreciate a quieter household and may not take well to dogs or young children. He would be fine with other easy-going cats or animals and birds as he is not a fighter/hunter. I have rescued and rehomed a number of cats over the time he has been with me, so he is good at adapting. He is well housetrained and loves the outdoors so needs his freedom and a good sized garden. He can be kept in at night with a litter tray.

We have always lived on larger properties and next to bush, so I would love to find a similar peaceful environment for him. He would not do well in high density housing or being too close to busy/noisy roads/areas.

This is an incredibly hard decision for me and I need to make sure his new home is perfect as he is such a special boy.

If you can help or know anyone that may be interested, please contact me.
Thank you for reading.
Sharon

The 60 bait stations and traps are checked every two three months. Depleted or old bait is replaced and activity around each station is noted. Rats mice and possums are the main targets with a few traps set for stoats and weasels. It would appear pest numbers in the park are quite low. Bait in many stations have not been touched. Very few possums have been caught in the park over the last year or so. This is good news for bird life in the park. Tuis are plentiful in the area. fernbirds and californian quail have also been sighted. The latter two are ground nesting and don't thrive if predators are plentiful. Kaka, kingfishers, grey warblers, fantails, waxeyes and various finches make up some of the species present in the park. The morepork was photographed on the boundary of the park last week. The patrol provides a good workout for the volunteers as the traps are scattered along several kilometres of crisscrossing trails. Summer patrols are relatively straightforward but can be a bit more challenging in winter when the tracks become very slippery.

Every year, summer means an influx of Kiwis to beaches, rivers and campgrounds all over Aotearoa. Kiwis love summer – it’s in our DNA – but if we’re honest, we’re not always very good at it. Stay safe with a few tips from Westpac:

- Don’t turn your back to the waves.
- Always take your lifejacket.
- Tell someone when you’ll be back.
- Don’t drive when you are tired.

And remember if you stray too far, the Choppers can help. In the last 12 months, Auckland’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew 962 missions keeping Kiwis safe.

Stay safe in Chopper Country.
