Update.. back to normal, repairs complete: THANK YOU!

The Team from Wellington Water

⚠REPAIRED... MAJOR WASTEWATER OUTAGE – KAIWHARAWHARA ⚠ Update 9.30pm.

The team has successfully repaired the wastewater pipe and have now returned the rising main back to normal operation while managing to contain the waste flow from further discharge during construction by diverting to the Thorndon Street pump station.

This means all residents in the map below can now return to normal usage in your homes! Thank you everyone for conserving waste usage and helping us minimise the impact to the environment.

⚠MAJOR WASTEWATER OUTAGE – KAIWHARAWHARA ⚠
A wastewater pipe has burst outside 17 School Road Kaiwharawhara, as a result waste is making its way to the Kaiwharawhara Stream.

While the team is working to repair the burst pipe we are appealing to all residents within Kaiwharawhara Road, Lower South/East part of Khandallah and the North/East part of Wadestown (properties highlighted in the map below), to please minimise flushing of toilets (essential only) and use of your inside drains as that will reduce the impact of waste discharging into the harbour while the team promptly repair the burst pipe.

Crews are mobilising to start digging and repairing the pipe. Sucker trucks are also onsite to minimise/try to stop further discharge into the stream while we commence repairing the wastewater pipe.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

Poll: Would you participate in local initiatives aimed at stopping plastic from reaching our oceans?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Volunteers will be scouring the foreshore, riverbanks, and islands for rubbish on Saturday the 13th as part of the Clean Up the Hutt event.

This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.

We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚

Want the details? The Post has you covered.
