Every two years KOKOMAI is held next door to you! Kokomai is an inspiring, edgy and diverse Creative Festival for the Wairarapa region: music, theatre, dance, visual arts, film and literature. Events are located across the region, from rural halls, churches and larger venues such as the Carterton Events Centre.
Festival highlights this year include Wonder Wombs, a gutsy seven-strong cast, featuring some of Aotearoa’s favourite performers from the circus, theatre, and dance worlds and Scottish folk band Shooglenifty. ‘Readers & Writers’ literary Festival as part of Kokomai 2019. will hosting a wonderful line up of authors this year, from Mike Chunn (former Split Enz member), to Marilyn Waring, and accomplished novelist Paula Morris. Tickets are on sale at eventfinda.co.nz.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
