Visiting kitty - does it have a home?

Tracey from Newtown

This wee sweetie has been visiting most days, coming in when the back door is open to be petted and sit in the sun. My concern is that it's pretty skinny, as well as being timid such that even though it comes over to me to be petted, it often flinches slightly when I first put my hand out. While it has previously visited for a couple of hours each fine afternoon, today it was on the deck meowing at 9am which isn't usual. I just want to check that it does have a home and is being properly fed, and is just coming for the company when I'm around; as opposed to having strayed from its home - I know a lot of kitties are simply friendly visitors around their neighbourhoods (one of ours used to visit the elderly neighbours to have an afternoon nap with them on their electric blanket!) and have perfectly good homes. I'm also aware kitties can be skinny for reasons other than not being fed enough - my elderly girl got thin in her last couple of years of life due to old age, not for want of feeding! It's very hard to tell how old this little one is - it's not a kitten, but other than that I'm very bad at working it out! As you can see, it has a collar, but no tag or chip. Just want to check it's ok :)

Poll: Have you ever been bullied?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

People associate bullying with children in schools, but it can actually stretch beyond childhood to workplaces or neighbourhoods.

This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, which began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink. People across the globe are now encouraged to wear pink on this day to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.

Have you or your whānau ever experienced bullying? Share your thoughts on Pink Shirt Day below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
