Things that surprise Kiwis returning to NZ

Lorna Thornber Reporter from Stuff Travel

Hi everyone,
I'm working on a travel story for Stuff about the things that have surprised returning Kiwis about New Zealand. If you have recently returned from overseas or know someone who has, it would be great to hear about the things that have stood out for you, for better or for worse. Whether it's to do with the weather, the cost of things, the public transport, the food, the housing, the people or something else entirely, we'd be keen to hear about it. Please remember that your comment may be included in the article, unless you say you don't want it to be. Thank you.

Inheritance tax

Michelle from Berhampore

Greetings team.
I've noticed several articles in the news regarding this.

I'm seriously wondering how people feel about the concept of this proposal.
The statement that was "People giving family money they haven't earned".
I'm sure there are a lot of people who have gone above and beyond to care for parents/grandparents.
I'm just wondering how people feel about this even being discussed.

There hasn't been a Stuff etc poll regarding this yet so I thought I might start a discussion.

Do you think this is an overreach?
The people who worked hard for this money already paid tax.

Do you find this rude? How do your family view this?

Thank you. 🌻

What do you think about Wellington's draft 'Spatial Plan'?

Mandy Te Reporter from Dominion Post

People will get to have their say on Wellington's blueprint of its future. Councillors on Thursday voted on its draft spatial plan and gave the green light for city-wide engagement. The draft plan shows six-storey buildings in places like Johnsonville, as well as buildings of up to 10 storeys in Te Aro. How would you like Wellington to look in 30 years?
