I have beautiful Barred Rock Plymouth chickens - Lots of them! I have them in all ages.
My breeding chickens range freely on our lifestyle block. They are fed a healthy nz grown men xed grains feed, non gmo! I also supplement their diet with kitchen scarps, wheatgrass sprouts & fermented treats to ensure they get everything they need!
Reasons to keep Barred Rock Chooks include:
- beautiful, graceful, stylish birds
- they lay lots of eggs, Year round
- they love people & are kids friendly
- (if you want to) their meat can be eaten once they retire from laying eggs
- ideal for a back yard coop if you dont have the space for them to free range
- The hens are broody and good mothers
Also,
- Expect your barred rock pullet to start laying eggs when she is anywhere between 16 to 20 weeks old.
- By the age of 5years, your barred rock hen is considered βold".
- The rooster grows up to weigh about 3.4kg to 4.3kg while a hen will be round 3kg.
